Isaac’s Fishing Retreat

“And suddenly there came a sound from heaven, as of a mighty rushing wind

and it filled the whole house where they were sitting.”
Acts 2:2

I just returned form a week long fishing retreat in Ontario, Canada. Each year we visit a remote fishing resort named Rushing Wind about 20 minutes by float plane north east of the small village of Nestor Falls. The lake that the resort is located on was ranked as one of the healthiest lakes in Ontario, but the most important fishing takes place right in the camp, the fishing of men.

We start each day with breakfast and a speaker who shares a devotion and his/her testimony, then we hit the water. We spend the day fishing mostly for northern pike and walleye, with the occasional perch, lake trout, muskie, and rock bass. I caught my biggest fish this year, a 25 inch walleye. We head back in to camp around 4:30 in the afternoon for dinner and a devotion/testimony. They only feed us twice a day, but o man, we’re fed well! After dinner we have the opportunity to get back out on the lake. In our free time we can kayak, explore near-by mines, hike, catch animals such as turtles, snakes, frogs, and toads, throw hatchets, and fellowship with other Christians.

I am looking forword to working a session.

  1. I read this before, Isaac, and I don’t know if I commented before, but I am making sure that I do this time. First of all – you are a very good writer, and I enjoy it! Second – congrats on the huge fish! Third – How cool that you are a part of this ministry/man-bonding experience. Love you! Hope it works out for you to have a working experience there, too.
